Quartzite Falls
Roughly one billion years of geologic history is missing in much of the Grand Canyon, secretly scrubbed away over eons before we were here to see it. But in a few places remnants of these missing links are still here. This is Shinumo Quartzite, one of the missing rock layers. And oh what a missing link it is. A spring erupts from the Muav limestone above this place and the water made short work of carving a beautiful slot canyon. Curious about this canyon, my friends and I managed to get high above here to the to the source of the spring, then we rappelled through this canyon ending here at Quartzite Falls. What a stunning place indeed.
